The shape of your face is an important factor that should be taken into consideration when selecting the earring as the ornament has the capability to flatter and define your face. The first step of this guide is to identify the shape of your face. There are 9 common easy identifiable face shapes. There’s round, rectangle, square, heart, oval, diamond, triangle, inverted triangle and oblong. You can use the chart above to compare your facial features and determine your face shape.

Oblong (Long and narrow) and Rectangle (long and wide)



The most obvious feature of an oblong face is the length, where as rectangle faces are both long and wide.The trick to defining these face types better is to make them appear fuller. It’s a good idea to choose short dangles, studs, clustered earrings, and large sized hoops.

Round

For faces that are already too full, you want to add an illusion of length which will balance out the roundness. Choose long danglers and avoid anything that is as round as your face or features any circular figures.


  




Square

Square faces have a similar width of forehead, cheeks and jawline, and in order to cut out the sharpness it’s recommended to choose medium to long earrings with rounded edges. The curved or rounded features of the earrings soften your face whereas anything with pointed edges will only reinforce the squareness.

Inverted Triangle and Heart


This face type has a wide forehead, and narrower cheekbones and jawlines. In order to bring balance to the face, one can opt for teardrop earrings or even a chandelier style. Same works for heart shaped faces, which are only distinguished from inverted triangles with the presence of a widow’s peak.

Diamond



If you have a diamond shaped face then you have cheekbones that are wider than your forehead and jawline. In order to complement this face type, you can pick earrings that are more wide than long, featuring a combination of curves and sharp edges.

Triangle



 

For a triangle shaped face type you need earrings that are longer and narrower, which won’t add any more width to your jawline - and yes, avoid triangles.
Oval

If you’ve got an oval shaped face, you’re in luck because pretty much any style of earring is going to suit your face. You’ve got just about the right amount of roundness and length to your face, and while you can carry off almost any style a good pair of studs or triangular shapes will go a long way.
